They kept this city hidden from Valyrian Lords fearing they would recapture or kill them if found out.Īfter 100 years of this event Braavos slowly came to known by people of Essos. The Moonsingers slaves were the first citizens of this city. Mutiny ensued and they killed their slavers and escaped to the north most distance in Essos through the Narrow Sea. It is said that the Moonsingers revolted against Valyrian slavers and captured one ship. Among these slaves, there were a religious group called the Moonsingers. Most of them were diseased with ashes and harmful fumes and gases down there. We can easily imagine the sufferings of those slaves working day and night in those volcanic mines. Volcanic mountains of Valyria contained much resource in those mines and slaves were employed to collect it. It was the capital of the Valyrian Freehold, heavily enriched by mines. The center of this civilization was Valyria, now ruined and demolished. It was built with several cities, most of which still remained, but it wasn’t actually a “realm” or “kingdom” by definition. Essos was far more developed and had a flourishing civilization called the Valyrian Freehold. During that time Westeros had seven independent kingdoms that constantly fights with each other.
